ONONDAGA SKI CUB TRIPSTRIP COMMITTEE MEMBERS NEEDED: Looking for an adventurous job to do in the Onondaga Ski Club - join the Trip Committee. I am looking for people to help plan each year's winter trip schedule and also looking for individuals to lead trips. You do not have to be leading a trip to be on the Trip Committee, although you certainly are free to do so. Your primary task would be working with me to plan and coordinate each year's trip activity, and review trip plans submitted by those who wish to lead a trip. Also, if any of you are in the early stages of planning a trip, please let me know your preliminary ideas so we can approach the ski season with a unified trip plan for the club. The trips can be week long, weekend or day trips. Please contact me (Leo Naylor - Trip Committee Chairman) if you have such an interest. Call @315-339-3741 or email me at lnaylor@hotmail.com. PAST OSC TRIPS - SUMMARY REPORTSFebruary 2010 Crested Butte Trip Report 2010 Steamboat Trip Photos March 2006 MT. TREMBLANT Quebec, Canada This years Tremblant trip, started a new trend, 34 of us left the Ramada in Syracuse at 1 pm. When we arrived at our hote we did not have to run off to bed. The town was ours. This gave us a chance to have a third full night on the town. The mountain had lost 6 weeks of snow making in November and December due to a strike, but the trials were in great condition. As usually it was cold but nothing the Onondaga's couldn't handle. Several people on our group decided to take the free guided tour where they learned the history and secrets of the highest mountain in the Laurentians. One lady decided this was the time to take the dogs out. She went dogsledding and had a great time. She also went snowshoeing. And you only thought Tremblant was for skiing!! We did have one person get hurt on the first day on the last run. Mr. Howard Burris will be back next year to complete that run!! Saturday night began with our first party. As usual there was table top room only. Thats why Jim Budrakey could be seen standing on the table taking pictures. On Sunday we awoke to a dusting of snow in the town but 5 inches on the top. As we skied down to the hotel we could see some of our group in the outdoor hot tub at the LaSource. Another great day of skiing followed by another party. Later that evening we had a pajama party attended by most of our group. The Zimmer's got the award for the best PJ's and Dick Gillette for the best leg's. Monday the sun decided to show itself for the first time. When it came time to depart, however, the bus decided it didn't want to leave. It had developed an air valve problem. We had to wait 4 hours in the hotel enjoying their hospitality, while a mechanic from Montreal fixed the problem. It only took him about 20 minutes to fix the problem once he arrived. We were on the road by 8:30 and arrived back in Syracuse at 1:30 am. All in all it was again a great trip to Tremblant. Leo Naylor, Trip Leader 2006 INSBRUCK, AUSTRIA ![]() Twenty skiers, two bobsledders, one snowboarder and four sightseeing-only members enjoyed a nine day trip to Austria over the February school break. We stayed in Innsbruck, within bus range of Kitzbuhel, St. Anton, the Stubai Glacier, and Axamer-Lizum. Conditions were excellent, with snow more forgiving and weather milder than typical CNY conditions. Skiing above the tree line allowed more adventuresome off-piste skiers to maintain visual contact with those who stayed on trail. Even chair lift rides were exciting. Helmets provided protection against unexpected bar movements. "Ready?" is not part of European ski etiquette. Our package offered non-ski activities everyday. Highlights include trips to Venice, Salzburg and St. Moritz. Our hotel was in the Old City of Innsbruck, near unique shopping and dining opportunities. Within hours of our Sunday arrival, club members had located a schnapps-tasting store and a beer-serving McDonalds. As new members, my fourteen year old son, Jim, and I enjoyed the congeniality of the group. Jim is already asking where we're skiing next winter break! Thanks go to Scott, Ethan and Leanna Severance for organizing a great tour. Mary Hurley Begley |
