WELCOME TO THE ONONDAGA SKI CLUBWho Are We?The Onondaga Ski Club was formed over 50 years ago in Syracuse, New York, for the purpose of bringing skiers together and promoting the fun of skiing. It has expanded and become a club for many activities, covering all of our four seasons. In addition to cross country and downhill skiing and boarding, we are active in biking, tennis, golf, bowling, camping, hiking, reading, ski racing, canoeing and kayaking, to mention a few. Our social activities and parties are frequent throughout the year at restaurants in and around Syracuse and at our Lodge in Vermont. Check out all our activities under the these links for Skiing , Activities , Club Trips , or check out our Calendar of Events . Club Lodge:
Our Lodge in Lower Granville, Vermont is located between Sugarbush and Killington ski areas and is now an all season facility, helping to expand our membership throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states as well as New York. It is owned and maintained by our club and provides economical and reliable year round lodging for our members. Club Meetings: Our club holds a general meeting at 8 PM on the second Tuesday of each month from September thru April at the Ramada Inn on Buckley Road, Liverpool, NY. These meetings are open to the public and feature information on trips, local ski areas, social events and up-coming activities of the club. Club Communications: The Schussboomer has been our newsletter, since the early days of the club, and is still available to members in a printed form and on this web site. This website as well as an e-mail list of members, requesting to be kept informed, are the modern communication tools of our club. Feel free to browse around and get acquainted. Website Navigation: The navigation bar (Tabs) at the top of this web page will take you to other parts of our website. The navigation menus in the left panel of each page will also take you to pages within the selected Tab. The remainder of this "Home Page" provides a monthly message from our president and a short synopsis of the club's "hot topics". Click on this Navigation Link for a detailed discussion of our site layout. Joining OSC: As you get acquainted, if you like what you see, feel free to join us by mail, or just come to one of our general meetings and sign-up there. PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE for March 2008
This column is written under pressure. The Honda CRV has a dead battery since some idiot left the lights on and drained the battery. That means that I had to run errands since I took Susan's car to work. In addition, I stayed too long at work. The result is that I have to write this column and pack for our trip to the Lodge tomorrow after getting home after nine. After two days of skiing and a great time with friends at the lodge, I may get out of the doghouse, if I behave. Pressure. Pressure. The ski trip to Banff Lake Louise was a great success. One participant's quote, "The best ski trip I've ever taken." Thanks to Janice and Christa for organizing a successful fun trip. Start thinking about where you'd like to go next year. Leo has mentioned the Lake Tahoe area. I've skied there and it has some notable ski areas and exciting nightlife if your not to tired form skiing. Don't be shy. Mention your suggestions to Leo or a member of the Board so we can have another successful trip next year. The trip to Mt Tremblant is full; thanks to Leo and his committee. The cross-country skiing group has organized a number of trips, but by the time this Boomer is published, they may be limited to the Tug Hill Plateau. The biking schedule has been published in the Boomer and is on the website. This year we'll have a very short ride in the beginning for those who might feel intimidated about joining us for the first time. Don't forget the bike clinic at the Sonne's on April 26th to make sure your bike is in top shape. The last issue of Boomer contained the statements of the candidates for office. The nominating committee has presented us with a talented slate. Come out on April 8th, listen to the presentations, and cast your vote for the leaders of the club next year. Well, I've got one thing done. Now I have to pack so I can hit the slopes in Vermont. He said the following: "For pure story, this colorful, headlong tale of a Depression-era circus simply can't be beat. Heroes, villains, romance, a wild-animal stampede! Big fun from page 1." It's a great book for discussion, too, with themes of loyalty, cruelty, reality vs. illusion, self-identity, the Depression, growing older, loneliness and friendship, relationships, animals.
