On Saturday May 1st, eleven OSC members and friends of OSC enlisted in the “Army of Hope” that was deployed to pack 500,000 meals for delivery to the earthquake survivors in Haiti. The OnCenter provided the space, The Salvation Army recruited the volunteers and Humana provided the food products for the Haiti Day event.

Many hands do indeed make light work! The energies of the teams that assembled and “man”ufactured the meal packages were incredible - by the end of the day 867,585 meals were packed. The eleven OSC’ers were part of an extraordinary group of 2,600 caring individuals who chose to spend part of their Saturday helping to get nutritious food to people who are 1,700 miles away.

Many thanks to: Warren Baldwin, Eileen Bannon, Gerri Berrios, Fred Ginestro, Eileen Hanrahan, Mark Osta, Gregg Papazian, Lori Roberts, Christopher Waters, Mary Ann Zeppetello and Marilyn Woyciesjes. In addition, Marian LaPierre contributed non-perishable food products for distribution to local pantries and other OSC members were involved with other community groups involved in the Haiti Day event.

The Salvation Army in Haiti has been in operation since the 1950’s and runs many schools and orphanages as well as feeding programs and emergency disaster services. The food packed at the OnCenter was shipped directly to The Salvation Army and ready for immediate distribution. Each meal package contains enough soy granules, beans, rice and vitamin powder to feed six people.
