Why Join The Onondaga Ski Club?
These are reasons given by some of our members, when asked that question...
Social
Meet people with common interests (Some people have even met their spouses through the club!).
Always have someone to do things with. People get together for planned and spur-of-the moment hikes, bike rides, cross-country skiing, kayaking, other activities.
Eight general meetings to meet and mingle and get the latest/greatest info on what's going on.
You can help people in need by volunteering your expertise and time. Visit our Volunteering page for ideas.
Lodge in Vermont
Have a reasonable and comfortable place to stay year-round in Vermont at the Onondaga Ski Club's lodge.
The Lodge is a great bargain for new members.
Activities: General
Everyone is welcome at every level, beginner through expert, at all of our events. These include tennis, biking, kayaking, canoeing, camping, hiking, golf, and, of course, downhill and cross-country skiing and snow boarding.
We have a wide range of events, from outdoor activities through frequent social events -- parties, nights out for dinner, happy hours, volunteer opportunities, even a book discussion club!
This is probably the nicest bunch of people you're ever going to meet.
The social activities are excellent and well organized.
Asking a club member to join you in an activity is not asking for a date. (Not that we haven't fostered some marriages.) And if you're really shy see who has posted a "last minute trip" and join that group for an outing.
If you're a club member and you're bored, it's your own fault! There is something to do with the club at least once a week, often two or three times a week, all year long.
Activities: Winter
Go ice skating with the group on Wednesdays at Sunnycrest Indoor Ice Rink.
Hone your skiing skills as part of one of our ski racing teams.
Take club group ski lessons.
OSC Team NASTAR is a great bargain and fun racing followed by great parties.
Nice neon yellow ID badges at a lower than retail price ;-).
Never having to ski alone... there's always someone raring to go... or already there (this is where those ID badges come in).
It's really not safe to cross country ski alone. We have so many pickup cross country opportunities (when conditions permit) that are just "show up at a specific time and place" to have people to ski with. The same holds true for hiking. An injury in the woods can happen to anyone. You don't want to be alone.
Wednesday morning ski development program at Labrador.
Activities: Spring - Summer - Fall
The canoe/kayak trips are great.
Join the tennis bunch that does their thing on Monday evenings all summer.
Golf get-togethers with Larry Harrison and others in summer.
Fourth of July party time at the Lodge with biking, hiking, canoeing or kayaking, hanging out at the local swimming hole(s) and attending the annual "quirky" parade in Warren,VT.
You can help the environment by volunteering in our Adopt A Highway program in Tully twice a year!
Jan's biking on Wednesday nights is great, especially when she serves up that delicious turkey on her weekend parties.
Camping with Terry and friends is exciting and always an adventure.
You always have old friends or new friends to ski, bike, hike, or golf with you.
Club Trips
Take advantage of group trips to places such as Colorado, Vermont, Canada, even Europe.
We sponsor non-skiing trips, too, such as cruises.
There's the September Covewood weekend on Big Moose Lake.
Member Benefits
Special handling of members by the local ski areas.
Bargains on member ticket prices in Vermont ski areas.
Free members only classified ads on the web site and in the Schuss Boomer.
Special reduced price on member-made ADK ski-chairs ;-).
Club day at EMS.
Membership
Membership fee is very inexpensive! It's the best $20 you'll ever spend for a year's worth of fun.
I think you get the idea..., this is one great club..., isn't it time for you to join the fun?
