Board Meeting Minutes

September 4, 2007

 

 

President Tom Button called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.

 

Present: Mark Bidwell, Tom Button, Jan Carr, Mary Clay, Christa Foster, Scott Foster, Kay Kotwas, Jack Lancette, Marian LaPierre, Marvin Patnode, Scott Severance, Allan Smith, John Sonne, John Whelan, Doug Zamelis

 

Excused: Dick Butler, Neville Sachs

 

Absent: Lloyd Howse, Leo Naylor

 

Secretary’s Report: A motion was made by Mary Clay to approve the August minutes as distributed electronically. Al seconded the motion. It passed.

 

Treasurer’s Report: The report was received and filed.

 

Committee Reports

 

-- Membership: Per Jack, total active membership is 508, one more than last month. Overall, it’s down about 10% from last year.

 

-- Communications: Deadline for October Boomer is September 15.

 

-- Golf: A tournament was held at Lyndon today. Jan Carr and Bill Beaudin placed first, Irene Morey and Tom Button second.

 

-- Lodge: No report from Al Smith. Marv said the ladies’ bathroom is taking shape. Finishing touches are still needed, but everything was functional when Marv had his family weekend. He emphasized that it’s a great place for families with grandkids or young children and should be promoted for such events. Al indicated that next summer’s lodge usage would be promoted in this manner.

Tom Button is coordinating the 2nd annual bike weekend at the lodge September 26-28.

Jack Lancette will coordinate the annual hiking weekend October 5-8.

 

-- Trips: John W. reported that a group of 16 participants will leave for Covewood September 7. Plans are for hiking, biking, and canoeing/kayaking.

 

-- Hiking: Per John W., October hikes are planned for Stony Pond, Ithaca area, etc.

 

-- Biking: Wednesday biking will continue for three more weeks. The wind-up party will be September 26 at Spaghetti Warehouse.

 

-- Road Rally: John Sonne and Bill Beaudin will coordinate the road rally on October 14. Cost is $10. Starting point hasn’t been determined. Art Zimmer will host the party again following the rally.

 

-- Social: September happy hour on Sept. 20, 5:30 pm at Colorado Mining Co. Night on the Town September 14 at Devaney’s in Weedsport.

 

-- Adopt a Highway: September 29. Meet at Burger King in Tully at 9:30 am.

 

Old Business: Motion was made by Scott F. that the October general meeting be held on Monday, October 8, at the Ramada instead of October 9, since the room isn’t available on October 9. Motion was seconded by Jan and approved by the board. This season’s contract was signed for the larger half of the room.

 

Marv asked about the progress on the use of absentee ballots. Tom asked Marv and Doug to investigate pros and cons. He’ll also contact Garre Krayenhof to be part of the committee to consider a policy change.

 

New Business: Tom reported that we have signed up again with the NJ Ski Council for access to reduced Killington and Sugarbush lift tickets.

 

There being no further business, Tom asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. Mark made motion, Scott F. seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 pm.
