Treasurer’s Report- As Tom Button is still out of town, there was no report at this time….
Biking and Hiking- Biking continues on Wednesday night. This Wednesday, we will leave from Reed Webster Park. Karen Whedon has invited us all to her house in Parish for a bike-picnic event. This will be held September 18. Details will be forthcoming
John Whelan is leading kayak trips on Wednesday mornings. Call him for details at 475-9888. On Saturday, July 10, he will be leading a trip to Big Moose Lake. John is also planning a trip to Blue Mountain Lake sometime in July,
Terry reported that the June 26th bike adventure to Kingston was a great success and a variety of weather was enjoyed by all. On the July 4th weekend, 15 stalwart members of ski club participated in a plethora of activities such as the Warren parade, swimming in the White River, a bushwhack hike (that was survived by 2), and a concert by Ann Barnes as well as the traditional July 4th fireworks.
Future events include a trip to Lake Lila (being co-led by Arley) on July 15 to help clear the strainer that blocks the way to safe paddling on the outlet that is on the upper reaches on the Beaver River. On August 4-8, many OSCers are going to camp, canoe, hike and kayak on Lake Eaton.
Lodge- Bill reported that the power went off at the lodge recently. There is an emergency lighting system but that lasts for only 20 minutes so please bring a flashlight in case of emergency. The lock on the men’s bathroom door is broken. Hopefully it will be repaired soon.
Social- On July 11 the annual Captain and Crew will be held at Westhill Country Club. The cost is $26 for 18 holes of golf and a picnic. Call Norm at 487-6848 or e-mail him at lnkp@earthlink.net. On July 30, Amy’s Hallmark has invited the OSC to join them at a Sky Chiefs. On July 23, we will be meeting at the Spaghetti Warehouse and then proceeding to the Chiefs game. August 20 is the Night on the town at the Retreat.
Trips- The Carnival Cruise has 8 cabins booked. This means that the cost of one bed will be returned to the club. Art Holbin is chair of the trip committee. He will be meeting at some point with the CNY trip council. Leo has proposed a trip to Tremblant next winter. John Whelan is running his traditional Covewood trip in September.
Membership- Due to Christa’s absence there was no report. Jack Lancette has graciously volunteered to be the new membership chair. There will be a new database that will be installed by Marv.
Communications- Arley stated that due to the frequent changing of servers, it is hard to keep the website running smoothly.
Insurance- Karen Whedon reported that insurance will not cover sporting events. Apparently it will only cover an accident at the ski show. Presently we are having participants sign a release form. We will continue to look into options by checking with other organizations and possibly lawyers that belong to ski club.
Minutes- Arley suggested that the minutes be sent out and corrected in a five day period. Terry made a motion that this be accepted - Jane seconded it.
Membership software- A motion was made was made by Marv to purchase software for membership. Judy seconded it. The motion was passed.
Phone Service- Debbie Beaumont sent Scott a note saying that since she no longer needs her land phone except for the Boomer. She asked that either the club pay for her phone or else the Boomer be done by someone else. Since Karen Whedon volunteered to take over the Boomer, the situation was resolved.
Absences- Scott brought up the issue of what makes a valid excuse for absences. It was brought up that a board member can miss up to 3 meetings a year and they must inform the president that they will not be there. Any problems with attendance will be dealt with on an as needed basis.
Meeting venue- Gary Woolschlager reported that the Ramada will no longer be available after December due to remodeling. New sites have been researched routinely over the years. We have remained at the Ramada because the cost was about the same for other venues. Also in changing venues, we may lose members who are used to going there. Presently the budget is $3000. Diane Clark and Mary Jo DiNuzzo have been looking into other sites. Gary is going to gather the info from Mary Jo and Diane.
Judy brought up that while the room is “free” exorbitant prices are charged for food and drinks.
Lodge concerns- Terry Avery made these suggestions-
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Anne Sonne, Recording Secretary
