Committee Reports

-- Membership: As of Jack Lancette’s report of May 30, we have 545 members.

-- Communications: The Schuss Boomer deadline is June 15 for July/August issue and August 15 for the September Boomer, then back to the every-month cycle.

-- Lodge: Dick reported about the great work weekend in May. Scott, Dave, and Dick went up a few days early to finish work on the new fire doors. All are installed, the alarm system is being tested by the state this week, the front door now opens out to porch rather than into the building, etc. Thorough cleaning was done over the weekend, furniture repaired and painted, garden work, and more. Three more windows need to be replaced and then most of safety requirements have been fulfilled.

-- Trips: Leo called a trip committee meeting for next Tuesday, June 13. Anyone interested in our club offering good trips, or in running trips, is encouraged to attend. At this point, the following winter trips are planned:

Stowe: Feb. 23-26; XC and downhill

Tremblant: sometime in March, weekend to be determined.

Leo reported that the money for the cancelled Aspen trip has not been recovered. According to the contract, $1,000 are non-refundable, the balance was to be refunded. Leo received an e-mail from Snow Tours, Inc. indicating that they convinced Aspen to refund but the management has changed and they don’t know what’s going to happen. He will keep after them.

-- Local Trips: John Whelan has a good response to the Covewood trip Sept. 8-9.

Terry Avery is leading a kayaking trip at the lodge this weekend. Six people are signed up at this time. Marv scheduled a golf weekend at the lodge for July 28-29-30. Details on a biking weekend at the lodge are still in the works.

-- Adopt-A-Highway: No report.

-- Book Discussion: Kite Runner, June 15, at Charlotte Buskey’s. Dianne Emmick will lead the discussion.

-- Biking: Jan reported that a bike rally is scheduled for June 21; the course was set up by Larry and Jan. Followed by covered dish supper at the Clarks.

-- Golf: Tuesdays at Lyndon, groups of 10-15, 1:30 and 4 pm.

-- Tennis: Well attended, Mondays at 5 pm.

-- Social: Night on the town at Cora Ds June 9, golfing tentatively scheduled before the dinner. Next Happy Hour: Thursday, June 22, 5:30 pm, Eagle View Restaurant in Liverpool (former Hooligans). Next dates: July 27, August 24; no locations yet.

Old Business: Summer meeting dates were scheduled for July 13 and August 15 and approved by the board.

New Business: Terry was appointed 1st vice president; motion was made by Marv, seconded by John. We also need two new board members since Bill Beaudin resigned and Terry was appointed first vice president. Karen Whedon and Doug Ahlsen were next on the list with the most votes at the April election meeting. A motion was made by Scott and seconded by Mark that Karen Whedon and Doug Ahlsen should be offered these two board positions. Both are one-year positions and will end April 30, 2007.

Marv asked for guidance as to which area the Long Range Planning Committee should tackle next. He suggested membership, i.e., attacking membership, expanding to a younger age group, perhaps reorganizing how membership is handled. He will organize a group for brainstorming and strategizing.

Dick has 15-20 years of boomers and asked what could be done with them. One suggestion was to leave them at the lodge.

Mark asked why trips are mostly scheduled in the middle of the season, the most expensive time of the winter. Why not try to schedule before the local ski season starts or after it ends so that the skiing season is extended. Skiing out west is usually fantastic until the end of April, also in December.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 pm, following a motion made by Mark and seconded by Jane.

Respectfully submitted,

Christa Foster
