March 1, 2005 Board Meeting
President Scott Severance called the meeting to order at 7:08 PM.
Excused-Kay Kotwas, Mary Clay, Terry Avery, Kurt Londhair, Joe Cali
Guests- Chris Lancette, Paul Martin- our host
Secretary’s Report- accepted
Treasurer’s report- accepted-Arley suggested that there might be a way to reorganize the treasurer’s report to make it easier to understand. When there is a changeover of treasurer, there will be an attempt to group different categories together that will make different expenditures more obvious. Bill Beaudin asked about having a more detailed listing of lodge expenses.
Long Range Planning- The article in the March Boomer gives a detailed list of statistical information that was gleaned from the application forms. The committee has also devised a series of leadership packets that can be downloaded from the website to make the leaders more sensitive to different levels of ability.
Communications- There was an incorrect phone number for Tully Lakes Ski Shop. This will be corrected in a subsequent issue.
Website- Steve Whisenand will be Arley’s backup for the website.
Lodge-The lodge has been very busy. There have been 273 tickets sold for Sugarbush, 96 for Killington, and 18 for Whiteface/Gore. There was a discussion on the certificates for a free night at the lodge for new members and who will qualify.
Trips-The Tremblant trip will be leaving on Friday. The club had 5 new members as a result of the trip. The trip is filled and will be publicized earlier next year so we may possibly be able to fill 2 buses.
There was a discussion on possible new venues for trips and also new ways to market them. It was also suggested to make the cost reasonable for these trips.
Jan Carr brought up the possibility of a golf trip to Bristol Harbor
Membership- There are 565 active members in the club.
CrossCountry Skiing- Jane reported that there was an article about our cross country group at Green Lakes in the Neighbors East. There were 15 people at Highland Forest Cross Country skiing last Saturday. The apres ski was held at Marlene’s. The coming week’s trip will be at Osceola.
Onondaga Cup Race- (February 26 at Labrador) The race was $40 for non ticket holders and $20 for season ticket holders. There were 58 racers. The biggest complaint was that we had the race on the NASTAR hill. Next year we will look into using the Cut Throat Slope to provide better competition.
The total expenditure for the race was $1667.57with a profit of $252.43 to the club.
Arley pointed out that our ski club is currently 18th of 1292 in the nation.
Social- We discussed forming a social committee to get new ideas for the social scene. The April 15 night out is scheduled for Wacky Wyatt’s in Baldwinsville (instead of Molly’s on the Green). The March night out will be at Morgan’s on March 11. The Spring Fling will be held at the Fireside Inn on May 14.
New meeting place- Jane McCarthy suggested that we look ino the venue that AARP (American Legion in East Syracuse) uses for their meetings.
We would like to thank Paul Martin for hosting us at his Red Barn Winery and offering his delicious wines to board members.
The meeting we adjourned at 8:35.
Repectfully submitted,
Anne Sonne, recording secretary
