Board Meeting Minutes
November 7, 2006
President Tom Button
called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m.
Present: Doug
Ahlsen, Terry Avery, Mark Bidwell, Dick Butler, Tom Button, Jan Carr, Mary
Clay, Scott Foster, Kay Kotwas, Jack Lancette, Jane McCarthy, Leo Naylor,
Marvin Patnode, John Whelan.
Excused: Christa
Foster, John Sonne, John Tuttle, Karen Whedon.
Guest: Ken
Robbins, Lou Wassel, Arley Morey, Debora Kimberly, Albert Smith.
Secretary’s Report: Scott Foster made a motion to accept the October 3,
2006 minutes as posted, and Dick Butler seconded the motion. Minutes were accepted.
Treasurer’s Report: John
Sonne had emailed his report to board members.
Tom Button noted that the treasurer’s report was received and filed.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
--Membership: Jack Lancette
reported 571 active members. Jack will
send out another reminder letter to those members not renewed yet.
--Boomer: Marv
Patnode reported the Vermont Lodge survey summary is in the Boomer. A CD with active data base is
available. Since the Boomer is 12 pages
long, it was suggested to not including
the Lodge information page. The Lodge
Committee and Marv will discuss a compromise in length of information and
report at next meeting.
Arley Morey, reported not all
Board members wanted personal information available on web site. Arley also asked the Lodge committee to
update the lodge information on the home page.
Arley requested that some other member take over heading up the
nominating committee. Arley has been the Chair of this committee this past
year, we thank him for a good job done.
Arley has Jack Lancette and Marv Patnode trained to help him with the
web page, when necessary. It was
suggested that we try to get more ads
on the web page to generate more money for the club. Marian Jerose will be contacted for help with this.
--Lodge: Tom
Button introduced Ken Robbins, the new Chairman of the Lodge Committee. Ken gave a brief report, requesting new
ideas for lodge events from the OSC members.
A list of the members of the
Lodge Committee was distributed.. Ken
thanked Dick and Joann Butler for all their years of work as Chairpersons of
the Lodge Committee. Scott Foster was
also thanked for co-chairing the committee this past year.
--Trips: Leo
Naylor reported Stowe and Mt Tremblant are still open for sign up. No interest yet on Elk Mountain. Belleayre Mtn looks good This will be a one day trip January 12 or
February 16. Lift tickets are $15, also
several members have free tickets.
John Whelan reported Garnet
Hill trip is almost filled. John
reported on the hikes to Whetstone and Baltimore Woods. This Saturday, November 11, will be a hike
at Morgan Hill. We will meet at 10:00
am in Tully at Burger King. John will
have Jan Carr send out an email.
Arley Morey reported on the
Western trip in April. He had sent an
email to those he thought were interested.
Please let him know the dates you plan to be out in Colorado.
--Social: Fall
Fling is Saturday, November 18 at
Fireside Inn, Baldwinsville. Let Norm
know if you plan to attend. Lou Wassel
reported on New Year’s Eve at Greek Peak. $35 for skiing 4-10 pm, buffet, band, torch parade, champagne
toast.
--Book Club: Next
book discussion: Nickel and Dimed by
Barbara Ehrenreich, on Thursday, November 30, at Charlotte Buskey’s. Dinner/socializing 5:30-6:30; Discussion 6:30-8:30.
OLD BUSINESS;
--Lodge
Questionnaire: Marvin had emailed his final report on the Lodge Survey
Result and the Suggested Lodge Improvements to all Board Members. The book containing the actual surveys and
comments for review was available.
--Lodge Committee: Scott
reported on the Lodge Work Weekend in October.
Along with long hours of cleaning and repairing the lodge, the committee
discussed the survey and prepared comments and recommendations from the Lodge
Committee which Scott read and distributed.
It was suggested offering a Lodge weekend with a bus for transportation. Leo will get cost of bus info. The age of children allowed at the lodge was
questioned. Tom Button asked the Lodge
Committee to review survey responses to confirm the age limit of children.
--OSC Cards: Dick Butler
asked what had happened to OSC Cards discussed in the past. Tom Button will get in touch with Kurt
Londhair and Paul Martin, to get cards and updated flyers printed to promote
OSC event information.
NEW BUSINESS
--Concern of member: The
OSC Board had received an email from Sean Patterson, a new young member of OSC. Sean offered to work with OSC to promote
getting some younger members. Tom
Button will contact Sean.
Tom asked Jane McCarthy to
act as greeter of new members and guests at the next General meeting. This would give us some follow up
information on perspective members and make them feel welcome.
The meeting was adjourned at
9:10 pm after a motion was made by Dick Butler and seconded by John Whelan.
