COMMITTEE REPORTS

Membership- Total active membership is 523. 140 have renewed or joined for 2008, per Jack Lancette. Jack and Chris had a membership recruitment table at the Toggenburg Fall Fest and spoke with quite a few people who showed interest in club activities.

Communication- Deadline for November Boomer is October 15.
The Board requested that Arley and/or Jack enter our club's data into a new ski club listing at http://www.skisite.com/ . This is an attempt to secure some free advertising for our club. Check it out. Once you get to Skisite's home page, click on ski clubs, then New York, then Onondaga Ski Club.

Long-Range Planning- Marv suggested we need a plan for the future of the club; propose a path and create dialogue as to how best to achieve that path. He will submit a proposal at the next meeting.

Adopt a Highway- Neville reported small turn-out. Next year’s date is April 26.

Biking- The wind-up party held on Sept. 26 at Spaghetti Warehouse was a success.

Book Discussion- Under the Banner of Heaven, by Jon Krakauer. A brief and turbulent history of Mormonism's fundamentalist sect. Nov. 1 at Charlotte Buskey’s, per Mary Clay.

Lodge- Work weekend October 21. Tom reported 4 couples enjoyed a great biking weekend Sept. 26-28 with perfect weather. In response to Neville’s concern regarding utility costs at the Lodge, Allan stated there is little insulation in some areas. Dick Butler said the heat loss is mainly in basement area and under men’s dorm. Arley suggested that blown-in insulation performs better in older houses. Mark suggested an energy audit might be helpful. Discussion on insulating will continue. Allan recommended that the Lodge Committee meeting minutes be posted on the web site. Debbie Kimberly is Recording Secretary for the Lodge Committee.

Trips- Tremblant looking good, per Leo. John Whelan is organizing a number of hikes.

Road Rally- Oct. 14, on calendar on web site, per John Sonne

Social- Night on the Town, Oct. 19, Siracusa’s

Happy Hour, Oct. 24, Green Gate Inn, 5 pm

.            Fall Fling, Nov. 17, Fireside Inn, Baldwinsville

OSC Mail Box- Dick Butler received a call from the Postmaster that mail was not being picked up regularly causing overloading the box. Marian stated she picks up mail twice a month and Thursday morning there was only 7 items in box, per usual. John Sonne asked if we really need a post office box. Important correspondence, such as tax  bills, could be mailed directly to the treasurer.  Tom suggested we keep track of mail volume for the next month to see if it is mainly urgent or junk mail.

Old Business- Arley submitted a draft of Proposal to Change the By-Laws on Voting to accommodate Absentee ballots.  After much discussion Tom proposed the matter be referred back to committee to be brought up again at next month’s meeting. John Sonne so moved, seconded by Mary Clay.

New Business– John Sonne proposed some training requirements for potential future treasurer candidates, suggesting they could assist the current treasurer to facilitate a smooth transition at election time.

Dick Butler, speaking for Lou Wassel, noted that Greek Peak will hold their annual New Year’s Eve party again with lift tickets and buffet, and lots of activities for children.

Tom reported the New Jersey Ski Council meeting November 2 in Giant Stadium to promote area skiing. Leo offered to attend to promote the Lodge. Jack suggested that perhaps one of our members in that area could cover. Marv thought it should be part of a program for next year. End of discussion.

Tom reminded all that the general meeting is Monday, October 8, not our usual Tuesday, and recommended  Jack e-mail a reminder to our members.

There being no further business, Tom asked for a motion to adjourn. Neville so moved, Mark seconded. Meeting adjourned at 8:35 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Marian LaPierre
