WELCOME TO THE ONONDAGA SKI CLUB WEBSITE

Who Are We?
The Onondaga Ski Club was formed over 50 years ago in Syracuse, New York, for the purpose of bringing skiers together and promoting the fun of skiing. It has expanded and become a club for many activities, covering all of our four seasons. In addition to cross country and downhill skiing and boarding, we are active in biking, tennis, golf, bowling, camping, hiking, reading, ski racing, canoeing and kayaking, to mention a few. Our social activities and parties are frequent throughout the year at restaurants in and around Syracuse and at our Lodge in Vermont. Check out all our activities under the these links for Skiing , Activities , Club Trips , or check out our Calendar of Events .

Club Lodge:
Our Lodge in Lower Granville, Vermont is located between Sugarbush and Killington ski areas and is now an all season facility, helping to expand our membership throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states as well as New York. It is owned and maintained by our club and provides economical and reliable year round lodging for our members.

Club Meetings:
Our club holds a general meeting at 8 PM on the second Tuesday of each month from September thru April at the Ramada Inn on Buckley Road, Liverpool, NY. These meetings are open to the public and feature information on trips, local ski areas, social events and up-coming activities of the club.

Club Communications:
The Schussboomer has been our newsletter, since the early days of the club, and is still available to members in a printed form and on this web site. This website as well as an e-mail list of members, requesting to be kept informed, are the modern communication tools of our club. Feel free to browse around and get acquainted.

Website Navigation:
The navigation bar (Tabs) at the top of this web page will take you to other parts of our website. The navigation menus in the left panel of each page will also take you to pages within the selected Tab. The remainder of this "Home Page" provides a monthly message from our president and a short synopsis of the club's "hot topics". Click on this Navigation Link for a detailed discussion of our site layout.

Joining OSC:
As you get acquainted, if you like what you see, feel free to join us by mail, or just come to one of our general meetings and sign-up there.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE for April 2008

Well it's over; my time as President is done. Boy time flies when you're having fun. It's hard to believe I've been running meetings and writing this column for over two years. Of course I didn't do it alone. I want to thank the members of the Board of Directors who served with me. Special thanks go to those members whose term is up and who won't be serving next year. Dick Butler, Second Vice President, and Board Members Jan Carr, John Whelan and Doug Zamelis.

Congratulations to the newly elected officers and directors:

Marv Patnode, President; Scott Foster, Second Vice President; Christa Foster, Recording Secretary; and returning Board Member Jack Lancette. We especially welcome new members of the Board of Directors: Marilyn Woyciesjes, Dave Devendorf and John Tuttle. Thank you Joann Butler and her committee for all your work in finding a slate of excellent candidates.

Welcome back to Scott Severance from his sojourn in Florida! Thank you very much for your generosity of letting us use of your office for board meetings.

Now it's time to thank the committee chairs who made this year such a success:
Mary Jo DiNuzzo and Neville Sachs for organizing Adopt-a-Highway;
Marian Jerose for handling advertising in the Boomer;
Larry Harrison for organizing Tuesday night golf;
Jan Carr and Larry Harrison for all the great biking;
Gary Woolschlager for running tennis;
Jack Lancette for keeping up Membership, emails and the calendar of events;
John Whelan for offering adventures in canoeing, hiking and cross-country skiing;
Arley Morey for organizing NASTAR and keeping our webpage up-to-date;
Mary Clay, Diane Emmick, Janice Farrelly and Norm Pyzynski for all the fun social events;
Dianne Emmick gets a second thank you for running our reading group;
Christa Foster and Janice Farrelly for leading the trip to Banff;
Leo Naylor for leading the trip to Tremblant;
The Lodge Committee, chaired by Ken Robbins and Al Smith, deserve a special thank you for the great repairs and renovations that make the lodge so comfortable and attractive.
Diane and Dave Clark get an extra thank you for handling lodge reservations;
M & M (Mike and Marilyn McCabe) for greeting us and making us feel special at all the meetings. They are retiring as Hospitality committee chairs so we need volunteers to take up their post.
Marv Patnode for his work as editor of the Boomer. (He needs a replacement too.)
And a very special thank you to my wife, Susan, who edits these columns and has been very supportive and helpful during my term.

But before I close, you're not done with me- I'm chairing the marketing committee and I look forward to all your creative input and ideas.

I hope to see you biking or on the links before I see you on the slopes next year!

Tom Button
President of the Onondaga Ski Club

Book Reading Group '08...

Start reading now to get ready for the next book discussion which will be Thursday, May 15, at Dave and Diane Clark's house. The book is Water for Elephants by Sarah Gruen. As usual, a dish-to-pass dinner at 5:30 PM will be following by the book discussion from 7-8:30.

In this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly, Steven King picked Water for Elephants as one of his top books for 2007. He said the following: "For pure story, this colorful, headlong tale of a Depression-era circus simply can't be beat. Heroes, villains, romance, a wild-animal stampede! Big fun from page 1."

It's a great book for discussion, too, with themes of loyalty, cruelty, reality vs. illusion, self-identity, the Depression, growing older, loneliness and friendship, relationships, animals.
